Chapter 13: Encounter With The Antenna Woman (Part 2) (Revised)

<<Word Magic>>…… That’s the name of the unique magic which Hiiro uses.

Allowing the user to write letters with his fingers to form words and bring forth the power of the word’s meaning. That was Hiiro’s magic.

For example, if he writes [Flame], he can make a flame to appear from nothing; if he writes [Float], he can float in the air; and if he writes [Bomb], he can cause a tremendous explosion.

It was truly a cheat ability. Of course, what he writes doesn’t have to be in Kanji, but he uses them because it’s easier to understand their meaning and exert their effects.

Now, he was pointing his fingertips at the sleeping girl to write the word [Rise] on her and the next moment, an unexpected thing happened.

*Gabu!*

“…What?”

Hiiro was shocked by the events that happened next. Muir was the same, as she was shocked stiff with her mouth gaping.

The reason why they were so shocked is that the girl, who was supposed to be asleep, has put Hiiro’s finger, or rather, his whole hand into her mouth.

“Mogumogu mogumogu mogumogu”

What was more surprising was that the girl was still unconscious and only her mouth was moving.

“O- Ow, ouch! Let go of me, you antenna woman!”

Apparently, Hiiro had subconciously decided to call the girl Antenna Woman. It was obvious that he called her that because of her hair.

Hearing a painful crunching sound coming from his fist, Hiiro tries desperately to pull it out of her mouth while enduring the pain, but she follows him straight to his face.

“She….She’s not letting go! Let go of me! Or rather, wake up you idiot!”

The girl’s eyebrows twitched in response to Hiiro’s voice, and then she lifted her eyelids. Hiiro was relieved to see that she finally woke up.

“….Good mowning(morning)…”

“…..Who told you to hello like that?”

Hiiro says while his cheeks were twitching.

“Let go for the time being.”

“……?”

The girl tilted her head.

“Just open your mouth.”

“……? Aaaaa~h”

She opened her mouth. Seeing that, Hiiro took the chance and pulled his hand out. Checking it, the teeth marks were distinctly visible on the back of his hand.

“Ah, Hiiro-san? Are you okay?”

Muir finally spoke up, but Hiiro didn’t answer that and instead rubbed his hands.

“…… Hiiro?………… who?”

“What are you doing? Trying to eat my hand.”

He scowled at her, but the girl didn’t seem to take offense. Only her eyes moved all over the place.

“……..Because…it smelled good……?’

“Why did that sound like a question? My hands are not for eating.”

“Sorry….Hiiro?”

“Don’t call me by my name so casually, antenna woman.”

“……..Wrong”

“What?”

“Wi is Wi”

“Huh……?”

He couldn’t help but question her again. He couldn’t understand what she was saying.

“Oh, maybe her name is Wi-san…”

Muir intervened, but the girl shakes her head again.

“Nn…… Wi is Wi. But that’s not all ……right?”

“…… What is this guy talking about?”

“C- Come on……”

She was a girl who exuded a mysterious atmosphere. She was either self-paced or natural and elusive.

“Does that mean you’re not called Wi?”

“Wi is Wi, okay? But Wi is also called Winkah.”

“…… Oh, so your name is Winkah! I assume Wi is abbreviated from that?

“Nn…… correct. So you can call me Wi. ………… who?”

Winkah noticed Muir’s presence for the first time and looked at her while tilting her head.

“Oh, I’m sorry! My name is Muir! I’m Muir Castrea!”

“Muir….Hiiro”

“Don’t address me so casually, antenna woman”

Seems like he was holding a grudge because of how she gnawed at his hand a moment ago. It looks like it hurt a lot.

“I’m sorry …… bit your hand.

“You didn’t bite it. You were trying to eat it!”

“Ah, Hiiro-san? Wi-san seems to be reflecting on it……”

Muir looks up at Hiiro while looking troubled.

“…… Ha, by the way, where did the old man go?”

Hiiro decided that he should leave this incomprehensible person to Arnold.

Arnold, who came back while breathing hard, looked at Hiiro and the others and saw that the girl he had just saved was awake there. Seeing that, he smiled and guffawed.

“Hahahahahaha……oh! You’re up, girly!”

“Oh, Uncle! That’s right, she’s called Wi-san. Oh, but her full name is actually Winkah-san!”

“…I’m fine.”

“Hey, It’s a pleasure to meet you, Wi. I’m Arnold Ocean!”

“Hmm…Regards”

“But why did you fall down here?”

“Fall down….what?

Apparently, Winkah didn’t remember falling into the hot water.

*Gurukyururuuruuru…….*

A voice that sounded like a small beast making a painful cry reached everyone’s ears.

Then, with a *Patan*, Winkah fell flat on her back.

“Oi, what’s going on?! Wi?”

Arnold shouts. Winkah moves her mouth while holding her belly.

“I’m……hungry.”

Hearing that, Hiiro and the others shrugged their shoulders in disbelief.

The three of them turned to look at the child who had suddenly fallen into the hot water.

Muir, in particular, was more startled than anyone else and jumped away.

Uh, …… who is that? A girl ……?

Muir fearfully stares at the child who doesn’t even twitch.

“O- Oi, shouldn’t we do something about this?”

There, Arnold lets out a worried voice. He thought that the child, whose face is soaked in hot water and is not moving, would suffocate if he didn’t pull her out.

He turns his head to hear Hiiro’s opinion on the matter, but there, Hiiro was soaking in the hot water, looking comfortable as if nothing happened: “Fuuu~”.

“Oi! How can you act as if nothing happened?!”

That was probably a natural reaction. Arnold must have been fed up with Hiiro’s my-pace way of going through such situations.

“Hey, Hiiro!”

“Noisy. You should just decide what you want to do on your own, old man. I’d rather enjoy the hot spring.”

“You’re such a whack-job”

Arnold’s cheeks were twitching and his shoulders slumped due to Hiiro’s attitude. Then he slowly returns his gaze to the girl.

“Can’t help it… I can’t leave it like this. Muir, give me a hand for now.”

“Ha- Hai!”

“Well, the spear is in the way. Yo, oh, that’s pretty heavy. Muir, hold it for a moment.”

Then he takes the spear from the child and hands it to Muir.

“It’s heavy, so be careful.”

“Un!”

Even though she’s small, Muir’s strength is quite high because she’s a beastman. It’s a big spear, but it’s nothing to worry about if you’re just holding it. However, it is still a pretty heavy spear.

Muir was surprised to find that such a small body could handle such a heavy spear. She held the spear tightly to not drop it by surprise.

She hadn’t seen her face yet, but Muir guessed that it was a girl, looking at her long hair, her clothes, and her height which was not so different from her own.

Thanks to Arnold holding both sides of the child, bringing her out of the hot water, and turning her from her prone position to her back, she was finally able to see the person’s face.

“Oh, it was a girl after all.”

She was a pretty girl, not much older than Muir in appearance, with yellow hair bunched back in a braid that reached her waist.

Her hair strands, pinned up like an antenna, were cute and wobbling around above her head.

Then, Muir gulped involuntarily at the sight of the girl’s entire body, gazing at it with envy.

Large breasts, thin limbs and waist, and white, delicate skin. A well-formed face. A beautiful girl.

All of them were something Muir always wanted to have.

Seeing that style, which was so clearly different from her own, made her somewhat sad.

Even though they looked like they were the same age, she thought that…………especially these breasts were foul-play.

“Hmmm, so you were a woman.”

Suddenly Muir heard a voice and turned around. Hiiro was standing there.

“Ki, ky!”

Since he had a single towel wrapped around his waist, Muir felt her face turn bright red at the topless Hiiro and turned her back instantly.

Clo- Close~!

Unaware of Muir’s embarrassment, Hiiro takes one look at the sleeping girl and walks over to the rocky area where his clothes are. Seems like he already had enough of the hot spring.

Perhaps sensing Muir’s embarrassment, Arnold says a few words to comfort her.

“Shall we change clothes for the time being?”

“…Yeah.”

After checking to see if the girl was still alive, she seemed to be breathing properly, so he laid her down on the spot and went to change.

When the three of them returned after changing, the girl was still sleeping. With a refreshed look on his face, Hiiro looked down at the girl and asked, “What are you going to do about her?

“Hmmm, it’s also possible to leave her as is. But the monsters might come too……”

“Y- Yeah, that’s right. We have to wake her up somehow.”

Muir observes the girl again. She is wearing some revealing clothes, or rather, a simple, light outfit consisting of a breastplate and shorts.

A black choker is locked on her neck, and a fluttering cloth is wrapped around her waist to cover the shorts.

The most eye-catching thing is the spear, but if she’s carrying such a large spear, she’s likely to be an adventurer.

Maybe she’s capable in her own right, but if she’s left alone as is and something happened to her… Arnold started slapping her cheek.

Muir turned her attention to Hiiro who was standing next to her.

     ※

“Well, is she okay?”

“Dunno, she is not injured and I don’t think that she is dead…”

“But to have such a big spear, is she an adventurer or something ……?”

Turning her gaze back to the girl, Muir couldn’t help but feel uncomfortable with Arnold’s actions as he tried to wake her up.

Earlier, he had been flicking the girl’s cheek with the palm of his hand, but now, for some reason, he was poking her with his fingertips, as if he enjoyed the feeling.

And the worst part is that Arnold’s cheeks were loosening up happily. His demeanor was not something that should be shown to a stranger, especially to a girl.

“U, Uncle……?”

“Eh! Ah, no, it’s nothing! It’s not that I was enjoying its elasticity or something……”

“Uncle……”

She became somewhat sad seeing Arnold’s deliberate attitude.

And as for Hiiro…

“What is this? A crime scene?”

“Wrong! This isn’t what you think…… oh my God! Muir! You believe me, don’t you?!”

“U- Un, I believe in……believe in …… lieve in……”

“D-d-d-damn it!”

Seeing Muir struggling to finish her words, Arnold felt ashamed of himself and ran off somewhere else.

“U, Uncle!?”

“Let him be. He’ll come back soon enough. Rather, this guy, I don’t care even if we leave her like this.”

“That’s no good!”

“………… Huh? Then get her to wake up.”

“Yeah …… but how do I wake her up ……”

Seeing her so confused, Hiiro lets out a sigh.

Hiiro wants to go and find the finest ingredients as soon as possible, but he is troubled because there is no point in doing so if they themselves do not move.

The only person who knows about the ingredients is Arnold. That Arnold would not leave the unconscious girl alone. This means that inevitably, Hiiro will also have to wait until she wakes up.

“…..It can’t be helped”

Hiiro approaches the sleeping girl and brings his fingertips toward her face.

“Hi- Hiiro-san?”

She asks, unsure of what Hiiro is trying to do.

“Just keep quiet and watch. I’ll wake this guy up.”

Chapter 12: A Short Break at the Hot Spring (Revised)

Under the clear sky, the sound of three people’s footsteps could be heard.

They were stomping on the sandy ground, pushing forward steadily up a slope.

This place is called [Rogi Mountain], a place that even adventurers don’t often approach alone. The reason for this is the number of monsters.

Monsters that weren’t that strong individually would rush in such huge numbers that would make one feel dizzy.

For veterans, there is not much to gain from taking the time and effort to deal with every weak monster which doesn’t even offer much experience.

For beginners, however, it’s easy to get lost or die due to the large number of monsters and the complexity of the terrain.

This is not a place to enter lightly.

Three people had come to the mountain that everyone shied away from, to find what they were looking for.

“Oi, is it really on this mountain?”

Hiiro, who is feeling a little tired, perhaps because he has climbed for a long time already, says so to one of his fellow traveling companions – Arnold, who is walking in front of him – with an expression of disbelief on his face.

But Arnold seemed to be full of confidence.

“ Oi! I told you I was going to make you some delicious food for what you did last time. I’m a chef, so I can’t compromise.”

Hiiro doesn’t work for free. He is a give-and-take thinker who always demands some kind of compensation for lending a hand.

Arnold is a skilled cook. Hiiro, who has little knowledge of otherworldly cuisine, is making full use of Arnold’s knowledge and skills for his benefit, and as they are currently traveling together as companions, he gets to eat delicious food every day.

“B- But, uncle. It’s only a bunch of slime and goblins that have been popping up since a while ago, right?”

“Don’t worry, Muir! What we’re after goes much further!”

“I hope it is real.”

“Hiiro, can’t you stop saying stuff like that?!”

The three of them walked like that for a while, with Muir was scurrying around as if she was concerned about something.

Then Arnold asked.

“What’s wrong Muir?”

“Well, uh, about that……don’t you smell something strange……?”

Muir sniffles.

“Eh?”

Arnold focused his sense of smell in the same way.

There was definitely an unusual smell in the air, just like she said. Moreover, it was quite a pungent odor that made one frown.

“Na, what’s this strong smell ……?”

Hiiro also looks around, while covering his nose with his hand.

But Arnold’s eyes gradually sparkle and his cheeks begin to relax. It’s a look as if he’s discovered something to rejoice about.

“This is…! Oi, let’s go!”

“Eh? Uncle?”

Arnold quickly pulls Muir’s hand and runs in an instant. Seeing this, Hiiro lets out a light sigh. His shoulders droop at the thought of how he has to follow this strange smell now.

He couldn’t leave things like this, so he had no choice but to go after them while putting up with the smell that made his nose curve.

When they entered the large rocky area, each of them was impressed by the scene in front of them.

“Ahaha! Yup, as I expected!”

“Wow, I see, so it was this smell.”

“I see now. So, this was the smell of sulfur huh.”

What the three of them saw was a natural hot spring. The steam rose to the sky, and the heat of the hot spring could be felt on the skin.

And with the excitement of discovering the hot spring, before they knew it, what had been an unpleasant smell that made them frown earlier, now seemed trivial…… or rather, they had forgotten about it completely.

And all three of them were thinking the same thing.

“Yosh, let’s go in!”

“Un!”

“Well, this isn’t so bad.”

The three of them had a broad smile on their faces

They were fortunate to be able to refresh themselves after all the sweating in this heat.

“Muir, there is a bathing suit in this bag, so change your clothes.”

“Un, got it!”

After saying that, Muir took the bag from Arnold, scurried around, and then went into the shade of a large rock.

“Alright, we’re getting ready to – You already took it all off!”

Disregarding Arnold, Hiiro had already taken off his clothes on the spot. He also took off his glasses and is now ready to bathe.

“Well, that’s fine. But you’ll need to cover your front since Muir is there too.”

As he said this, Arnold took a towel out of the bag and threw it over to him.

Hiiro received it without dropping it and wrapped it around his waist and approached the hot water. The first thing to do is to slowly sink your right hand into the hot water and examine the temperature of the water.

“…… a little hot, but it should be fine.”

It’s probably about 43 – 44 oC. It’s slightly hotter than a normal bath, but he didn’t have a problem with that, so he slowly put his feet in the water.

“As expected, it’s hot~”, and even though he was gritting his teeth a bit, he doesn’t stop and lets his whole body fall into the hot water.

“…… haah~”

He couldn’t help but gasp when he was fully immersed.

It was the first time in his life that he had ever experienced a hot spring, but now he really wanted to do it as often as he could if it felt this good.

He looked around for a bit, but he couldn’t see any monsters. Maybe the smell of sulfur was too strong for them to approach.

”Oh! Muir~! How pretty you are~!”

Suddenly, he heard a foolish voice.

Thinking that it was annoying, he looked at the end of Arnold’s gaze, and there was-.

“…… ah …… that …… um …… I hope you don’t stare too much.”

For some reason, Muir was wearing a navy-blue school swimsuit. The fidgety figure holding both hands in front of the chest and rubbing the thighs together is reflected. Her expression is also dyed red with embarrassment.

“No, no, no! It’s already awesome! It’s a Tenshi! Ohh~ my Angel~~!”        [ED: Tenshi = Angel. Damn it Translator, this is your job]

Rather than being a parental idiot, Arnold’s snorting no longer made him look like a simple pervert. Then Muir glanced at Hiiro.

“Hmm?”

Hiiro notices that she was looking at him and meets her gaze, causing her to suddenly look away in a hurry and then take a peek at him again.

……Huh?

Hiiro raised an eyebrow, wondering if she has something to say.

Muir gulps and clears her throat, a nervous look on her face.

“Oh, um, …… uh, that …… Hi- Hiiro-san?”

“What?”

“Um, ……That……, isn’t it strange……?”

Apparently, she’s asking if there’s anything funny about her swimsuit, but it’s more like a fit, and so fitting that there are no words for it. So fitting that it might even make some people drool for it.

“It’s not weird. If anything, you look too good in it.”

“Fue! Ah, ah, ah, ah, tha- thank you…..Vewy mauch.”

She hadn’t even soaked in the hot water yet, but she looked as if she were a boiled octopus.

She bit her tongue …… and then for her to be this happy to be told that she looks good in a school bathing suit ………… It’s probably a cultural difference.

Most of the women he has read about, and the women he has been around, are kids who want to be treated like adults, and they’ve been more offended than pleased by the fact that they look good in a school swimsuit, like the ones worn by elementary school kids.

Rather, I’m surprised that school swimsuits exist in this world……

For Hiiro that was just him giving out a plain impression, but to Muir…

“Awawawaw! He told me I look good! Wh- wha- what should I do? I can’t look at your face properly, Hiro-san~”

Muir, who mistakenly thought she had been praised, covers her face with her hands and writhed in agony while muttering in such a low voice that no one could hear.

Seeing this, Arnold shot a deathly glare at Hiiro.

“Muir is cute! She is cute, but I can’t accept this ………… ……”

Arnold also thought that Hiiro complimented Muir’s cuteness, so even though he admitted that Muir is the cutest, he can’t accept that Muir became happy and unnerved due to Hiiro’s words.

“Hey.”

“What is it, damn it?!”

For some reason, Arnold became teary-eyed even though Hiiro simply called out to him.

“The school swimsu – or was it a bathing suit? The one that she is wearing, is that a popular thing here?”

“Huh? That? It should be pretty popular. It was invented by a hero who was summoned to this world in the past.”

“………… Seriously?”

“Very so. Its name is ‘Sukumizu’ and I call it a bathing suit, but it’s supposed to be worn when you go into the sea.” (TL: EN: School Swimsuit -> JP: Schoolu Mizugi -> Edea: Sukumizu)

However, most people don’t enjoy swimming in the ocean because of the dangerous creatures in the sea. So, it is often treated as bathing clothes rather than a swimsuit.

Even so ………… what were the past summoned heroes thinking……?

He didn’t expect someone to come to another world and create a school swimsuit…….There had to be something more productive than that.

Thinking about it, he came to understand that that hero was definitely a person from Earth. He found out about something important, but for now, he was going to immerse himself in enjoying this wonderful paradise.

Haa~, that feels great…..

And then he spent his time at the hot spring, just relaxing.

…………*Japoon*

Wondering if a pebble had fallen from the top of the rock, his gaze naturally turned to it. Then he casually looks up at the top of the rock and squints to confirm that someone is standing there.

…… Who’s that?

He couldn’t see the person’s face clearly, probably because it was just backlit and he had taken off his glasses. He was gazing at the person as if he were looking into the distance, and then…….

“Huuu~”…………………………..*Japoon!*

That someone fell headfirst into the hot water.

”What the hell?”

Arnold also screamed in surprise at something that had suddenly fallen into the hot water.

Likewise, Muir’s eyes widened and she froze in fright.

And after a while, he stared at the figure that emerged from the hot water. Based on its height, it clearly looked like a child.

“………………Who?”

Arnold couldn’t help but mutter when he saw the child with a large spear in his hand.

Chapter 11: Traveling Companions (Part 2) (Revised)

“Hey, Hiiro, I have been wondering since the previous battle… what level are you at?”

Arnold asked such a question while the three were crossing the [Torchu Mountains].

“Why are you asking?”

“I mean, you have been using this weird magic, but I was thinking that your level isn’t that high.”

“Oh? On what basis do you think that?”

“I mean, it’s true that you’re quite physically gifted for a ‘Huma’, and you don’t look like a little kid with a murderous spirit, but the way you move in a fight is a bit amateurish.”

“……….”

“So, I figured that while you are strong, your combat experience isn’t that great and your level is still low.”

Hiiro was impressed by Arnold’s observation. Indeed, it hadn’t been that long since he was summoned to [Edea].

He thought he had completed various quests and fought a lot of monsters as well, but if you compare it to an experienced adventurer, it would almost seem cute.

The fact that Arnold deducted this much just from the previous battle was a testament to Arnold’s observational skills.

“It’s not a matter of whether the level is low or high, right? The point is whether you’re strong or weak.”

“You know, we’re going to be traveling together. We might even cover for each other in battle. So, isn’t it convenient for us to know each other’s level and abilities?”

Hiiro gazed into Arnold’s eyes. He didn’t feel the murkiness of falsehood in them, and he knew that he had a good point.

“True, you do have a point.”

“Then-”

“What about you, old man?”

“Huh?”

“What’s your level?”

“Oh, me? I’m lv31.”

Hiiro stares at him, who spoke out those words without hesitation.

….Should I check…..just to make sure?

Focusing his magic power on his index finger, he writes the letters quickly so that the others won’t be able to see it.

I should be able to check it out with this word…..[Prying].

This word will allow you to see what the other party is thinking and to check out their ’Status Board’.

With this, he is able to confirm the truth of what Arnold is saying.

After checking, he was able to confirm that Arnold’s level is indeed 31 and that Muir, who was sitting next to him, was level 13. There are several things about Arnold’s title that made him stand out.

But Arnold himself was able to prove that he wasn’t lying.

Hiiro thought that there was no need to be so cautious, but he wanted to check out the effect of the word [Prying], so it was good timing.

Hiiro got curious about the << Art of Binding >> in their << Status >>. Normally, << Magic >> would be written in that area, but apparently, it was different for beastmen.

So the technique which I didn’t feel much magical power from was this huh…I see.

Hiiro thought of investigating this << Art of Binding >> when he has some time.

“………… I’m 23.”

Since Arnold answered honestly, Hiiro answered honestly as well. It’s because he judged that there was no harm in telling them about his level.

But this time, he has also confirmed that Arnold is honest, enough to make him look stupid. And he also has a goody-two-shoes side to him. All in all, he seems like a good guy.

Hiiro was quite skeptical himself, but at least he found out that they aren’t the type that would try to deceive him.

Well, I can’t fully trust them, but it would be interesting to hang out with these guys for a while.

He was thinking of such things. Meanwhile…

“Yosha! As I expected, my level is higher! I win!!!

Arnold was already an old man, but there he was, overreacting – gut-posing and showing his superiority with a gleeful expression on his face – like a child, which in turn made Hiiro a little miffed.

“Hmm, levels aren’t everything, are they? What makes you so happy, pervert?”

“Don’t call me a pervert! You’re a sore loser, you bastard!”

“…..What did you say?”

“Awawawaw!”

Muir was frightened, not knowing what to do with the two glaring at each other

“Want to try me then?”

“Oh, ain’t that interesting?! I’m going to show you how strong adults are around here!”

Seeing the two starting to argue, Muir ran away vigorously from the spot, as if she thought it would go beyond the point of an argument.

Seeing this, Arnold huffed and shouted her name. Then she stopped in her track with a *Pika*.

“Ha, Hurry up and let’s go quickly, uncle! There is a village as soon as we cross this area, right?!”

“Ah, oh, yeah.”

“I’m starving! So let’s get going!”

They couldn’t let Muir, who started running again, alone.

“Oh well, Hiiro! We’ll continue this another time!”

“You saved yourself from humiliation, old man.”

“Talking about yourself now? You moron!”

Muir was anxious seeing the two having such an exchange, but she puffed out her cheeks in relief when she saw that they were following after her, and said her next words with a somewhat happy tone.

“Tha- Thank goodness! …… It’s no good for Uncle and Hiiro-san to fight, okay?”

Chapter 11: Traveling Companions (Part 1) (Revised)

“I intend to… cross the border.”

“…Eh? Y- You mean…?”

“Yeah, just like you two.”

“Why?! Why’s a human like you going to the beastman continent!”

“Huh? Obviously, it’s because I wanna see it.”

“………Hai?” (TL: Come again?)

“I don’t give a damn about politics. I do what I want and stop at nothing, not even killing if someone stands in my way.”

The silence continues for a while

“………… pfft.”

Arnold blows up and laughs loudly. Seeing Arnold laughing at him again, a blue vein bulges out on Hiiro’s forehead.

“What’s so funny, pervert?”

“Are you trying to stick that title to me!?”

“Anyway, I’m just doing the same as you guys.”

Arnold suddenly said with a serious look.

“It’s not a field trip, man. The ‘Gabranth’ are currently trigger-happy in more than one way. If they spot a human, it won’t end well.”

“Fine by me. I’ll turn the tables on them!”

“…Are you serious?”

“Naturally. I’ve no reason to run away.”

“The beastmen are strong though.”

“But I’m stronger.”

Since he had the ≪Word Magic≫, he believed that it would work out.

“You don’t say now. I’m getting more and more interested in you.”

“Stop it, you’re giving me shivers. I don’t swing that way.”

“Neither do I, damn it! Who’s homo, you bastard!?”

Arnold then shouted “Can’t you take this seriously?” angrily, whereas Hiiro responded “Probably not” indifferently.

Watching over their exchange, Muir once again let out a small smile.

But Hiiro got curious about it and asked her “What’s wrong?”

“Oh, I’m sorry!”

“No, I was just asking”

“Ah, I thought…that…Hi- Hiiro-san is a good person…”

“I’m a good person? This is the first time I’m hearing someone say that to me, and I never thought someone will ever say that to me… and for some reason, it’s kind of grossing me out.”

“Oi, oi, Muir, what part of this guy is good? You meant he is a bad person, right?”

“N- No, that’s not true! Hiiro-san saved me, and then there’s………… anyway he’s just a nice guy!”

Pressured by Muir’s expression, Arnold went silent while scratching his cheek.

“Well, I don’t care whether I’m a good person or not. More importantly, can you show me what’s under that hat?”

“…… Eh?”

Muir looked troubled by the sudden and unexpected request, but as for Hiiro, he had a desire to see not only the tail but also the animal ears. After all, if you’ve come to another world, you would want to see it at least once.

“It’s no good?”

“Um, …… ah, …… yes, then ……”

She looks upward embarrassedly, but when she touches her hat, that which was hidden underneath slowly appears.

“Ho ho, I see.”

“Ugh, ugh, ……this is somewhat embarrassing…….”

There were unmistakable beast ears there, just like those seen in anime and manga. They twitched and twitched, and it looked really cute.

He nodded with satisfaction, thinking that it was a good omen that he was able to observe a beastman, which he had always wanted to see, so soon after coming to this world.

Honestly speaking, he wanted to take a closer look at it and even touch it, but as expected, that’s not something he would be able to do on their first meeting, and he decided to hold back considering that the other party was from the opposite sex, even if they were young.

“That’s enough. Thank you.”

“Uh-huh.”

Muir’s expression didn’t change much, but when she put her hat back on, she turned over to hide her face as well. Apparently, she was quite embarrassed about it.

Seeing Muir act like that, Arnold went “Grrr!” groaning in frustration. Not liking the mood flowing between Hiiro and Muir, he barged in between the two.

“What is it, old man?”

“No, no, it’s nothing.”

“You are being suspicious though?” (TL: Yeah, he is pretty sus…)

Who wouldn’t think anything of the sight of him suddenly stepping in between and whistling poorly?

“Anyway, our meeting must be some kind of fate. And we’re heading in the same direction too. Wanna come with us? I will guide you there.”

“Stop messing around. What nonsense is that? I’m just fine by…”

Saying so, he suddenly made a somewhat musing face and fell silent, so Arnold asked him.

“Wh- What’s wrong?”

“You meant to say: Please come with us. Right?”

“Grr, …… this brat is……, he’s really, really messed up.”

He glared at Hiiro while grinding his teeth, but sighed right afterward.

“Haah~ I can’t win against you with words. Fine, we’ll come with you.”

“Do what you want.”

Originally, Hiiro had planned to act alone, but this was a good opportunity to learn about the beastman.

It was definitely better to have some background knowledge about his destination, the beastman continent. Therefore, he permitted them to accompany him.

“Oh, and…”

Suddenly Arnold glared at him with narrowed eyes.

“What is it?”

“Just a warning.”

“Again, what is it?”

“Don’t mess with………… Muir.”

“I’m a normal person you damn pervert.”

“Don’t screw with me! I’m also super normal, you fool!”

“Mh? That’s a first. I certainly don’t have an interest in little girls, but I was sure you did?”

“Yoshi, yoshi, yoshiii. Come, let’s take this outside! You rotten brat!”

“We’re already outside, lolicon.”

“Don’t call me that!”

Muir wearily shrugged her shoulders on their never-changing exchange and whispered with a voice so quiet that it couldn’t be heard by anyone.

“Muh, I’m not a little girl.”

Her murmur drifted away with the wind.

Chapter 10: Gabranth (Part 2) (Revised)

“O- Oi, Muir……”

Arnold stiffened.

“I- I, I, I, I’m so sorry!”

Apparently, her tail, which was hidden inside her clothes, had unintentionally popped out due to the delicious meal.

“The tail is a trait of the ‘Gabranth’, right? And that hat is hiding the other trait – the animal ears – right?”

“…..Indeed, she’s a ‘Gabranth’. But Muir…we have done nothing wrong! So don’t tell anyone!”

Arnold pleaded with a serious look on his face.

Hiiro just stared at Arnold.

Thinking that Hiiro might be someone who discriminates against beastmen, Arnold’s face instantly turns pale, and he immediately braces himself …… to pull out his sword, but that was a needless action.

“Tell anyone? Why would I? I don’t care at all if you’re human or a beastman.”

“…Huh?”

The two had their mouths gaping wide open

“That she’s from a different race doesn’t change the fact that she’s a living being, right?”

“O- Oi, y- you…”

“I’d rather read a book than worry about such things. Isn’t the quality of food and the content of a book more interesting than the differences between races?”

Hearing Hiiro’s reasoning, Arnold burst out in laughter.

“What a stupid thing to say,” says Hiiro

“Kakakakaka! You’re a funny brat, Hiiro!”

“Don’t laugh at me. I’ll stab ya.”

Hiiro was okay with laughing at others, but being laughed at was annoying for him.

Arnold ignored Hiiro’s words and laughed hard while slapping his own knee.

“No, I see, I see. Yeah, of course, there are some guys like you out there too.”

Saying so, Arnold turned his bottom to him.

“…… what the hell are you doing?”

Hiiro grimaced from suddenly having an ass shoved at his face. He seriously considered stabbing him once.

“Just look.”

There, a tail appeared from above the trousers. Hiiro widened his eyes a bit.

“…You are one too.”

“Yeah. I – we are ‘Gabranth’.”

Then he heard from them that they were on their way to cross the border leading into the ‘Gabranth’ continent.

But since this was the ‘Humas’ continent, it would without a doubt call forth a disaster when their true identities were found out, given the current state of affairs in the world.

People were more understanding towards them than with the “Evila’ and didn’t kill them on the spot, but they undeniably attracted attention. Not to forget the radicals. Arnold had seen more than enough of these.

Hiiro glanced at Arnold’s head in search of a certain something unique to beastman. Noticing his gaze, Arnold laughed briefly and asked.

“Wondering why I have no animal ears?”

Yes, Arnold wore no headgear. Yet no animal ears could be seen.

On the contrary, he has ears like a human. That’s why Hiiro thought he was a ‘Huma’.

“Wanna know?”

“Not really.”

“I see, I see. If you want to know that badly, I’ll tell you.”

“Didn’t you hear me?”

“Don’t be like that. Besides… it’s not completely unrelated to you.”

After these words, Arnold started talking before Hiiro could reply.

“You see… they were taken from me.”

“Taken?”

“Yeah, I’m an ex-slave.”

The slave system. It was a system mainly established for humans to persecute beastmen.

They are kidnapped at a young age and have a crest called ≪Magic Lock Crest≫ engraved onto their bodies.

The mark prevented them from running away or rebelling by letting the magic power in their bodies react to such attempts, giving them intense pain.

Long ago, when the beastmen had no own country, status, or authority, many of them were turned into slaves by humans, much like domestic animals.

The slave system was abolished, but is still active behind the scenes in the form of slave markets.

Arnold was a victim of that and the human who bought him as a slave had his animal ears ripped off.

His ears – the pride of a beastman – had been taken away eternally just because the human had happened to be in a bad mood.

“…So that’s how it is.”

It was related to Hiiro since he was a human too. One of the ‘Humas’ who persecuted the beastmen, Arnold included.

“One way or another, I got rid of the ≪Magic Lock Crest≫ and fled. Oh, by the way, these human ears are fake. They look like the real deal though, right?”

They certainly look like real ears from the outside. He said that he had an acquaintance make them for him, and they certainly provide a good cover to hide his race.

“Can the crest be removed that easily?”

“Nah, no one but the master can erase it. Though it automatically disappears when the master dies.”

“Then, old man, you…”

“Yeah, I couldn’t do it myself, but I had a guy that knew about how I – how we slaves – were treated do it.”

With the death of his master, Arnold officially became free. Hearing this story, Muir too became despondent.

“Well, after I got my freedom, I became a traveling cook! Sparkling, ain’t I?”

“The sparkle aside, you sure had a tough life. Normally it wouldn’t be strange to have a trauma about humans.”

The fact that he was talking with Hiiro like this now was a miracle in itself.

Arnold gave a self-mocking smile.

“Let bygones be bygones. Not to forget, the one who helped me was a ‘Huma’ as well.”

“I would totally go for revenge. Doing this and that…”

A dark aura wafted from behind Hiiro.

“Y- You’re scaring me…Ahem! Anyway, I’m happy right now and that’s all that matters.”

He said while petting Muir’s head. She narrowed her eyes pleased.

“Reminds me… what’re you doing in this area, Hiiro? A quest?”

“I have no obligation to—”

“Enough of that. Answer me. What’s the harm in telling me at least that?”

Sure, there was no harm, but he had no reason to either. It was merely Arnold’s curiosity. Well, not just his, as Muir also stared at him intently.

“…….Haah. I intend to…”

Chapter 10: Gabranth (Part 1) (Revised)

“….Fuh, so what did you think about that meat, brat?”

Hiiro closed his eyes and immersed himself in the aftertaste. Then he opened his eyes a bit and leaked a small sigh.

“Well done, my servants.”

“I know, right. After all, this mea- wait, who are you calling your servants!?”

“Just a joke. Don’t make a fuss, you’ll just ruin the mood.”

“It’s your damn fault!”

“Awawah! P- Please stop fighting! U- Uncle, calm down.”

Seeing the bewildered Muir, Arnold holds himself back unwillingly.

“Hmph, well whatever. By the way, brat, what’s your name?”

“Name yourself first.”

“You’re so damn self-important, aren’t you? Damn it, I’m Arnold Ocean. I’m an adventurer and a cook!”

“A cook? I see. That explains your proficiency.”

“Yeah, I traveled all around the world for cooking recipes. Consider yourself lucky.”

“And this shorty is?”

“Hey, listen to me!”

Arnold retorted, then continued with a sigh.

“She’s Muir Castreia. I picked her up during my travel… She’s my daughter now.”

The slight pause bothered him, but he didn’t think it was worth asking.

“Yo, nice to meet you!”

Muir glances up, looking at Hiiro’s face to see his expression, but he doesn’t pay much attention to it and opens his mouth.

“Oh, so in this world children are lying around.”

“As if! They aren’t treasure chests!”

“Not?”

“Of course not! Some stuff happened in her village.”

It indicated that he didn’t want to tell more about it. Muir also cast down her eyes somewhat sorrowfully.

Got their reasons, huh. Well, I ain’t interested anyway.

A rather pragmatic protagonist.

“So, what’s your name?”

“Why do I have to give you my name?”

“Huh? Come again?”

Arnold was troubled on how to react to every single of Hiiro’s unforeseen replies.

“Just kidding.”

“It was a joke!?”

“I’m Hiiro Okamura. An adventurer and… a reader.”

He thought about using a pseudonym, but from the looks of it, Arnold didn’t seem like a bad guy, so Hiiro gave out his real name. But the main reason might have been that he was feeling pretty good right now.

“What the! The last one’s just a hobby!”

“Fufufu~”

“Oh, Muir’s cute when laughing after all~”

Being told so, Muir blushed bashfully. Arnold made a disgustingly delighted expression as well.

“……..Are you a pervert who is into little girls?”

“Hey, hold it! I can’t let that pass!”

“Uhh…. I’m not… a little girl.”

The two of them got angry.

“Right, right! Despite her appearance, Muir is twelve years old! She can even give birth!”

Arnold said proudly with a thumbs-up, but the little girl next to him glared at him intensely.

“D- Don’t say such embarrassing things!”

Seeing her talk angrily with her cheeks puffed up, Hiiro realized something.

“…… I’ve been curious about this for a while now, but your mood is very different from the first time we met.”

He had imagined her to be a quiet child that never got angry, far from being a cheeky girl.

“Mh? You mean Muir? Well, duh, anyone would shrink back when a crude villainous guy with an evil look appears, not just my cute Muir.”

“Okay, sounds like you would like to taste my sword!”

“Pfft! Try it if you can! If it’s to protect Muir, I’ll even eat shit!”

“……You fail as a human being.”

Muir is also troubled, with a complicated look on her face. No, she seems to be downright embarrassed.

“Pah! She’s just that important!”

Arnold laughed boldly with a wahaha, but Muir called out to Hiiro.

“Ah, um, …… thank you so much for helping me out earlier!”

“Hm? Don’t worry about it. I got something in return for it.”

Muir is relieved to hear Hiiro’s words and to finally be able to thank him. Even so, he can still see the slightest hint of dread in the depths of her eyes.

“Ah, and that sauce you made, it was pretty good too.”

“…… Huh? Oh, really?”

“I wouldn’t lie regarding the taste of food.”

“Fee…… ah, that……than………… Shank you…….ah.”

He could tell that she bit her tongue, but he ignored it because he didn’t think that it was something he should comment on.

However, Arnold’s face becomes slightly grim when he sees Muir’s cheeks blushing at Hiiro’s words.

Still, Muir looked happy to be praised, so he seems to be holding back from retorting.

“By the way, Hiiro, there’s something I want to ask you.”

“I’m not going to tell you anything about my abilities.”

“Grr……”

He knew that was what he was going to ask about, so he made the first move.

“But I never saw a magic that stretches a sword before.”

“It’s not just a sword, but a katana.”

“A katana? Now that you mention it… so that’s a katana? Looks pretty well-made.”

“I don’t know whether it’s well-made or not, but it’s very easy to use.”

“Mhm~ So regarding the—”

“I ain’t telling you anything about my magic.”

“Why! What’s the harm! I shared my meat with you!”

“That was compensation for my help. The matter is closed.”

“Ugugu…”

That’s exactly what it means to not get caught up in the flow of conversation.

“Anyway, I’m surprised you can chit-chat with a total stranger.”

“Mh? Well, some way we ended up eating together after all. Besides, you don’t look like a bad guy.”

“What makes you think that? I’m human after all. I might attack that ‘Gabranth’ shorty.”

“!?”

In an instant, Muir turned pale and Arnold seized his broadsword.

His expression was full of hostility. But Hiiro calmly looked at them.

“Wh- Whatsoever could you be talking about?”

“Your reaction tells me more than enough.”

Arnold’s reaction proved that Hiiro had been right.

“Kuh…. How did you know?”

“….Mm.”

He pointed his finger at a certain place. It was Muir’s bottom.

“B- Bastard! You were lusting after Muir!?”

As he seemed to have a huge misunderstanding, Hiiro reluctantly spelled it out for him.

“Take a closer look. It’s moving around all the time… her tail, that is.”

“Eh?”

This time, Muir exclaimed in surprise. She quickly checked behind her and had her breath taken away.

It’s probably because the frilly, silver hair-covered fluffy tail was peeking out of her skirt.

Chapter 9: Tasting the Aqua Hound Meat (Part 2) (Revised)

The battle ended and Hiiro reverted the length of his sword by writing “Original” on it. At any rate, its piercing power could only be called first-rate. It easily went through the opponent like a hot knife through butter.

As expected from a sword specialized in piercing

Seeing Hiiro nodding with satisfaction, Arnold, who had been silent until then, finally opens his mouth.

“Y- You …… what did you just do?”

“Shouldn’t you be worrying about the shorty instead?”

He had no intention to explain it, so he quickly changed the topic. Then Arnold quickly shouted Muir’s name. She slowly appeared from behind a rock, where she had been hiding.

“A- Are you hurt?”

“N- No.”

“T- That’s good~”

As he was relieved from the bottom of his heart, he sunk to the ground. After a glance at him, Hiiro sheathed his sword. At that moment, his stomach growled and he headed towards Arnold.

“Hey, old man. Keep your promise.”

“……What are you talking about?”

“Oho…”

Hiiro drew his sword from the sheath a bit with a clink.

“J- Just kidding! Put that away!”

The man shouted in a panic. Hiiro sighed in a bad mood.

“It can’t be helped. My stomach is completely empty.”

“……..Hah. Sorry, Muir. I never imagined we would eat it here…”

He dropped his shoulders with a boo-hoo-hoo, but Muir briefly shook her head.

“N- No. He helped us after all. B- Besides, food tastes better with more people.”

“Uohhh! What a good child you are, Muir!”

He embraced Muir while shouting emotionally. Normally this would be a heart-warming scene, but Hiiro said while holding his belly.

“Just get on with it. I’m starving here.”

A vein stood out on Arnold’s forehead due to his attitude, but he realized that it was no use saying anything to Hiiro, so he lead the two with a sigh.

“Come here. I’ll prepare it.”

The two of them followed after Arnold to the earlier fireplace.

“Ehm~ I think it was… Ah, here it is.”

He rummaged about behind some rock and brought out some large bag. Opening that bag, he took out yet another bag. Something thick and heavy seemed to be inside that bag.

“Is that it?”

“Yeah, inside is…. this!”

What he pulled out was meat tied up with a string so that it wouldn’t fall apart.

“This is ≪Aqua Hound Meat≫. Moreover, it’s the shanks, the most delicious part!”

He thrust it before Hiiro as if to ask for his opinion.

His eyes were sparkling, and his hands, which were holding onto the meat were trembling in excitement.

“Whatever, let me eat already.”

“You sure are a self-important brat. Eat some fruits until it’s done. But leave some for me.”

“…I’ll try my best.”

“No, no, please eave some for me!”

Hiiro ate two out of the six red fruits with the size of a fist, which Arnold took out of the bag that Muir gave him. It was a ≪Gorin Fruit≫ that he had often eaten before.

The fruit tasted like an apple.

“You can nibble on them until I finish cookin-“

“More.”

“Already?! I gotta prepare the meat too, so show some patience.”

Saying so, the man took out a big stone from the fireplace. By the looks of it, the bright red stone was insanely hot.

“Should put it down here, uncle?”

“Yeah, be careful, don’t burn yourself.”

“Un!”

Muir places the meat on the stone.

The meat was placed on top of it. Then it sizzled, releasing an appetizing sound. The meat gradually changed color brilliantly, releasing its juices along with an aromatic smell.

All three of them couldn’t help but gulp down their saliva. The young Muir was unable to take her eyes off the meat too.

“Hey, isn’t it good already?”

“No, not yet. A certain procedure is needed to bring out the best taste of this meat.”

“Certain procedure?”

The juice temporarily stopped oozing out of the meat, so the string holding it together was cut. By doing so, the meat gradually swelled up.

“O- Oh, what’s this!?”

“That’s meat swelling, unique to ≪Aqua Hound Meat≫! Letting out the excess fat from the meat, it swells up. It approximately becomes thrice as big.”

Amazing. Its original size was already around the size of a volleyball. Three times that was rather big.

When the swelling hit its peak, it was similar to jelly, not like meat at all. He questioned if it was really meat, but the smell answered it for him. Before he knew it, his drool overflowed.

“Okay, Muir, get the containers!”

“Un!”

Muir quickly cut the meat in a straight horizontal line using the knife hanging from Arnold’s waist.

Surprisingly enough, the knife cut through it without any resistance as if it was pudding. After splitting it into three portions, she put it into three containers.

It had an amazing weight. It may have been the size, but the presence of the pudding was strong.

Normally I wouldn’t be able to eat meat this big, but strangely enough, I have a feeling that I can eat this much with ease.

“Ah! Wait just a moment! Don’t eat yet!”

Hiiro tried to dig in without delay, but Muir stopped him.

“What? Do you want to torture me?”

His stomach was sounding the alarm for a while now. If left alone any longer, something might happen.

“Um, I- I’m so s-sorry! But this dish is only completed after you pour this on it.”

Saying so, she pulled out a long container with a sauce from the bag.

“And that is?”

“A special sauce made from <<Orchie Berries>>.”

“Whatever. So it’ll taste even better with that?”

“Yeah, forget about getting addicted, it’ll send you straight to heaven as this was handmade by Muir!”

“You made this?”

“Oh, um …… yes.”

Arnold chuckles, “Hehehe.”

He seems quite confident in the sauce Muir has made. Muir has an embarrassed smile on her face.

“Heh, interesting. Count me in!”

The sauce had a color like ketchup but was more fluid. It had a faint sweet and fruity smell.

“Okay! Now it’s perfect!”

“Yep!”

“Mhm.”

Each of them responded.

“””Itadakimasu!””” (TL: Itadakimasu! = Time to eat!)

Hiiro used the fork he received instead of a knife and cut into the meat very easily. It was incredibly tender. He cut an appropriate mouthful and ate it.

“Ammu…..!?”

A tingling ran through his head.

W- Wha!? It’s gone!?

That’s right, the piece in his mouth had melted and disappeared. Still, he was by no means unsatisfied. The meat had disappeared, but its strong flavor intensely stimulated his taste buds.

Th- This is…!

He took another mouthful. And yet another.

I can’t stop!

It was like his body was moving on its own. His whole body was craving more meat. Each mouthful of the tender and juicy meat made his mouth feel stuffed, but he didn’t become stuffed at all.

He could still go for more. And it was emphasized further by…

It’s this sauce!

This sweet, yet somewhat sour sauce gave the meat a refreshing flavor, stimulating your appetite even more. He could seriously eat this all day.

The other two were devouring it in a frenzy too.

Then the quite large piece of meat was gone in no time. All three had an entranced expression.

Hiiro never expected such an effect from it. And the considerable size of the meat was gone in the blink of an eye. The three of them wore expressions of ecstasy.

Hiiro thought from the bottom of his heart that he was really glad that he had saved Arnold and Muir at that time.

Chapter 9: Tasting the Aqua Hound Meat (Part 1) (Revised)

“Hey, Hold it you bastard! Talking about eating now!? I can’t believe you! Can’t you read the atmosphere, damn it!”

“Say what you will. By the way, having trouble?”

“Y- Yeah, help me out!”

“I refuse. Why should I work for free? That’s ridiculous.”

“Say what!”

Arnold warded off the monster’s attack while his eyes became bloodshot. Using the momentum of his tackle, he stood in front of Muir.

But four Barbarous Kongs were surrounding them. With one moment of carelessness, Muir would be in danger.

…What to do?

Even seeing such a situation, Hiiro remains calm.

More than that, his hunger won over him, and he became increasingly irritated as his stomach growled endlessly.

So, what to do… The growling is annoying. Do I secretly snatch some food? Nah, he’ll notice…

Just as he was staring at the sweet-smelling fish, a knife was thrown at his feet.

Taken aback by the knife pierced into the ground, he looked at the culprit.

“Oi, what do you think you’re doing, old man?”

Yes, it was Arnold who threw the knife at him.

“All right, all right, listen to me, you little bastard! You can have the fishes! So help me! That’s the deal! If you want to eat, listen to me!”

“I refuse.”

“Wha!?”

Arnold didn’t expect to be refused at this point in time.

“Now I can take the fish and get away with it!”

“Are you a devil!?”

“Can’t take a joke, old man?”

“You’re asking for the impossible in this situation!”

Hiiro truly handled things at his own pace.

However, he would only get hungrier if continued like this. The first thing to do is to stop the unpleasant sound of his stomach.

I have no choice; I’ll work for the fish….

The moment he thought that, Arnold cut off one of the monsters’ arms, and that very arm brilliantly fell down on the fire.

“…..Aw”

“Eh? Ah, uh, uhhhhh!?”

The fishes were cruelly squashed by the arm and got coated with sand and pebbles, making them inedible. Seeing that, Hiiro gradually lost his spirit and then…

“…Well, time to move along.”

Hiiro walked away from the spot.

“Oi, oi, oi, oi, oi, oi, wait a minute!”

“What? Since my pay turned into this, I lost all my motivation.”

“Grr……”

Arnold could’ve forced Hiiro to take responsibility if it had been due to his ineptitude, but Hiiro hadn’t agreed yet and the negotiations in form of the fishes had failed due to Arnold’s fault, albeit accidentally.

But if he couldn’t get Hiiro’s cooperation, he would have to fight the ferocious demons while protecting Muir all alone.

He would have no trouble against them on his own, but since he had to protect Muir, it was difficult.

Damn it, to move that guy, I need to…… (Arnold)

It’s very frustrating, but it’s inevitable if it’s to protect Muir. (Arnold)

Arnold knew a little bit about the red-robed brat’s capabilities, so he thought about whether he could make him listen to what he had to say, and that’s when it hit him.

“Oi! Brat! Listen up!”

“Mh?”

Hiiro ignores him and tries to walk away.

“Sheesh! It’s my last resort! I’ll give you some of the [Aqua Hound Meat], so help me!”

Hearing that, Hiiro’s ears twitched and he stopped in his tracks.

Was he a little intrigued by the word “meat”?

“………… What’s that?”

“You don’t know!? It’s a first-grade meat! Eating it grilled will make your tongue melt and get you addicted!”

“Oho….”

Seeing Hiiro’s eyes sparkle, Arnold let out a breath of relief.

“Addicted, huh…”

Hearing those words, Hiiro remembered the [Addictive Seafood Noodles] he had before.

It was delicious. It was outrageously delicious. He sincerely wanted to eat it again by all means.

Therefore, he reacted to the word “addicting” from Arnold. As Hiiro loved eating, it was the perfect opportunity to eat something good.

“Oi, you better not be lying.”

“Huh? Of course not! I can’t joke about this in such a situation! But don’t get me wrong! Not everything, you hear! Whoa, that’s dangerous!”

Arnold barely avoided the Barbarous Bear’s claws as it sliced through the air.

“Damn it! Listen, brat! I guarantee the taste! But I’m only giving you one portion!”

At that time, Arnold focused too much of his attention on Hiiro. A Barbarous Kong seized Muir and lifted her towards its mouth, attempting to eat her.

“Kyah!”

“SHIT!”

Just when he thought that Muir had fallen into the enemy’s hands, its arm was chopped off.

“Ggaaaaah!”

The girl fell from its hand towards the ground. Muir tightly shut her eyes, rolled herself up, and braced herself for impact. Arnold saw that and shouted. Then…

………Huh?

Hiiro was holding Muir gently.

Muir only felt a soft sensation. Not a shred of pain. When she slowly opened her eyes, there stood Hiiro holding her.

“Can you stand up ……?”

“Eh? Ah, uh,……yes.”

“Then get up. And get out of the way. Go hide in the back.”

Muir was staring at him in a daze.

Arnold made a sigh of relief once he confirmed Muir’s safety.

However, Hiiro frowned displeased, bothered by their attitudes.

“Hey, get away already, shorty.”

“Ah, yes…”

She nods while saying so. She had a look as if she wanted to say something to him but distanced herself from him.

“Old man, stop staying still like an idiot and fight!”

“Sh- Shut up! Right back at you, don’t blame me when you die!”

“Ridiculous. As if these guys could kill me.”

Arnold took an offensive stance with his sword, but then felt a shiver running down his back as he sensed Hiiro’s thirst for blood.

Hiiro intended to slaughter the enemy with finality. To kill them without mercy. That was how he handled monsters attacking him.

His hostility void of any other emotions turned into bloodlust and overruled the area. Even the Barbarous Kongs reacted to that and all four focused onto Hiiro.

“Too troublesome to deal with them one by one. Hey, old man, line them up.”

“Huh!? The heck you saying?”

“Just do it. Leave the questions for later.”

“You little… Fine!”

Sighing in resignation, Arnold sharply glared at the scattered Barbarous Kongs.

“I’ll do it, but fall back if you don’t want to get dragged into it.”

“So bossy.”

Even while complaining, Hiiro took a step backwards, curious about what he would do.

Then Arnold held his broadsword with a backhand grip and pushed the sword upwards from the ground while spinning.

“Haaaaaa!”

He put strength into the hands gripping the sword. Then the wind suddenly begins to blow, even though there was no breeze earlier, and it caresses Hiiro’s cheek.

That wind gradually increases in strength, and to his surprise, it converges into a whirlwind with Arnold’s sword as its center.

Arnold instantly took a breath, then suddenly twisted his body and thrust his sword up from the ground to the sky with great force.

“Explosive Wind Claws [Fujin Bakuzo]!”

*Bwooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!*

Suddenly, an enormous blast raged upwards from the ground, with Arnold as the center. Even Hiiro, who was standing at a distance, got a bit wobbly. The monsters caught up in the maelstrom were lifted into the air with no way to resist.

“Oho, not bad.”

Seeing that, Hiiro muttered in admiration. Arnold could’ve sent them flying like that anytime, but didn’t do so as Muir had been close by.

I don’t feel any magic power from it. It isn’t magic?

The Barbarous Kongs were whirled up in midair while vacuum blades cut up their bodies.

Before long, they started falling, all lined up as Hiiro had requested.

“Hmm, good enough in the air?”

“Yeah, perfect.”

Hiiro answered, then aimed at the Barbarous Kong falling before his sword.

“Hey, what are you…?”

“Shut up and watch.”

He bluntly discarded Arnold’s question. Arnold became sullen, but watched attentively like he was told.

“Word Magic <<Extend>>!”

Then the rapidly extending blade pierced through the falling Barbarous Kong. It smoothly went through the flesh, perhaps due to the gravity or Shitō・Tsuranuki’s sharpness.

Arnold had his mouth gaping wide open at this scene. Indifferent to that, Hiiro slowly let his sword drop at his front after he was sure that it had pierced all four of them.

The ground shook greatly upon the impact of the fall of four Barbarous Kongs. The four were tied together through the extended Shitō・Tsuranuki.

Hiiro felt through the blade how they passed away one after another while groaning.

“One skewer of Barbarous Kongs ready.”

These words marked the end of the battle.

Chapter 8: New Encounter (Part 2) (Revised)

The [Torchu Mountain Range] was a hangout for monsters.

Hiiro had to pass through there to get to his destination [Surge] and thus was…

“UWAAAH!”

…in the middle of running away with all his might.

As for the reason, an annoying number of monsters was chasing after him.

“D- Damn! Who would’ve thought that this was the [Torchu Disaster Plant]!”

He slipped into a gap in the cliff, letting the monsters go past him.

How did it come to this? He had finally arrived at the mountain range, but noticed that his food was running out.

While he roamed around, he found a plant growing on the roadside. That plant bore fruits, which emitted a sweet fragrance like strawberries. Moreover, the fruits were rather large, so he plucked the plant, thinking it could serve as food.

However, the plant didn’t have roots underneath, but rather was shaped in a creepy humanoid form out of wood. He thought his heart was going to jump out of his chest when it suddenly started screaming.

And then he remembered that the woman at the counter in the Guild taught him about the monster called [Torchu Disaster Plant] before coming here.

She had told me that if I pulled it out, it will scream so loud that it would attract every monster in the vicinity.

Not knowing that it was the [Torchu Disaster Plant], he froze up on the spot without understanding what was going on, whereupon a swarm of monsters rushes towards him.

Haa, this really is an interesting world.

Even while thinking so, he held his breath and checked the surroundings. It looked like the monsters were gone.

“Phew. I think I could’ve beaten them, but so many showed up so suddenly…”

There were easily over ten of them. For now, it was the right decision to hide.

He walked on, reminding himself to be careful about the [Torchu Disaster Plant] from now on.

“Still, I’m starving.”

Even more so after running. He restlessly looked around for something edible and sniffed out an aromatic smell from somewhere.

He headed towards the smell. After a while, he found a small stream, and some fishes were being grilled nearby on skewers at a fire. The appetizing aroma stirred up his hunger.

Gulping down, he surveyed the area, looking for the one responsible for this. But as far as he could tell, no one was around.

“Hmmm…”

No one is around. Delicious grilled fish right in front of him. An empty stomach. And again, no one is around.

“…Time to dig in.”

He couldn’t hold himself back. Just at the moment he tried to take the fish

“I won’t let youuuuuuu!”

A terrible killing intent came from behind him, so he took a big leap to the side. At the spot where he had been at before, now stood a man thrusting a wooden pole into the ground.

“Get away! I won’t give you any! That’s my food!”

While saying so, he pointed the pole at him.

The man had short ruffled hair in blue color. He looked to be in his 30s.

Even when covered by armor, it was noticeable that he had quite a muscular build.

He carried a broadsword on his back, which made Hiiro think that things would get troublesome if he drew it.

Still…

Glancing at the fish, his stomach growled again.

“Oi, lad! Name yourself! Trying to snatch food from me, the great Arnold, is inexcusable! State your name!”

What a bothersome fellow is what Hiiro thought with half-open eyes.

It seems he was called Arnold.

“I’ve nothing to give to the likes of you! State your name and begone!”

It seemed he had to state his name no matter what, but he considered what to do.

“……..Fuu, first, hear me out.”

“What’re you acting all composed for, you thief! I’ll never be fooled! This is my food! I caught it after all!”

“…is the fish yours?”

“Yes! What about it?!”

“All right. Hand it over.”

“Don’t fool around!”

“I’m starving here, so hand it over.”

“G- Grrrrrrr! “hand it over! hand it over!” So demanding! How did your parents raise you, you damn brat!”

“Who cares about that. First of all, hand it over, grumpy old man.”

“Nuh-uh-uh! Who are you calling grumpy!?!?”

He flew into a fit of rage, making you think he would explode if angered any more. Just when Hiiro thought the man might actually transform, someone came out of the bushes with a rustle.

“U- Uncle…?”

It was a girl around the age of ten. She had silver hair that reached till her waist, but wore a headgear like a cute woolen hat that concealed it.

Her big eyes had clear sky-blue pupils. But right now, these eyes were filled with anxiety, and her small body trembled lightly as she stared at Hiiro.

“O- Oh, Muir~! Give me a moment! I’ll educate this ruffian with my fist of love now!”

For some reason, the man was running his mouth about him, but Hiiro glanced at the little girl, whereupon she hid herself, startled.

He didn’t know why she was so frightened. It’s not like he was showing any hostility towards them.

“……..Hah. I understand.”

“Hmm? What did you understand, brat?”

“I’m giving it all up. So just share some of it.”

“Were you never taught how to ask for a favor, you bastard!”

“What? I won’t concede any further, okay?”

“You’re in no position to say that!”

Tightly grasping his pole, the man became inflated with hostility. Then he leaped at Hiiro with quite a speed. Hiiro stepped back right away, dodging the pole attack from his opponent.

So fast… And he isn’t even serious yet.

While dodging, Hiiro measured his opponent’s strength by observing him.

Mhm, this brat has some good moves (Arnold)

Arnold was just testing him, but having his attack so easily evaded from seeing it the first time, he concluded that Hiiro was quite capable.

Then the two of them glared at each other from a distance.

With a click, Hiiro grabbed the hilt of his sword.

Arnold also seized the broadsword on his back. Tension reigned in the air and silence spread, whereupon a scream resounded.

“Kyaaaah!”

It was the voice of the girl that Arnold loved so much that he wouldn’t let out of his sight – the girl called Muir.

Three Barbarous Kong – oversized gorilla monster – had appeared behind the girl. They were probably lured in by the smell of the grilled fish and were ready to attack the girl at any moment.

“MUIIIIIIIIIR!”

The man drew his broadsword and went straight for the Barbarous Kong. His speed was in a whole different league than before. The monsters were startled as if they were were dazzled.

Arnold succeeded in cutting off the arm that tried to seize Muir by applying the momentum of his charge into his sword swing.

“GYAAAAH!?”

The arm fell directly to the ground with a thud, but even while it twists its face in pain, the Barbarous Kong swung its other arm towards Arnold.

Arnold catches it with the flat side of his sword with a *Gash* sound and places Muir behind him, desperately protecting her.

“U- Uncle……..”

“It’s okay! Leave this to me and tak-.”

It looked like he was about to tell her to take shelter, but another Barbarous Kong appeared behind him.

“What the?!”

At this rate, Muir will be in danger!

But Arnold had his hands full with the three monsters in front of him right now.

(Kuh! What now! Do I use it… No, it would endanger Muir too…!)

Arnold was clearly confused by the situation, but then he hears a voice in the distance.

“Oii, can I have some fish now?”

In a completely inappropriate mood, the unperturbed red-robed man gazed upon the grilled fishes in front of him.
